With ADP, Why Is It Best To Seek Help From A Lawyer?

Interviewer: Can people apply, on their own, for the ADP program, or does it require a lawyer? Also, is it foolish to try to do it on your own?

Stuart: It does not require a lawyer. However, you would not know whether you are benefiting by taking this YASI exam, or not. You may not actually benefit by taking this YASI exam.

For instance, I had a 17 years old client who thought she wanted to take the YASI and do all these things. As we went into her background, we realized she had a baby, a 1 year old by her boyfriend. We did not want to take the chance of them finding out about it and possibly charging her boyfriend with a crime based on that.

So we decided to opt out of the program and try it a different way; rather than have her admit to sexual activity which would be a crime not for her but for her boyfriend. So it could be very complicated to decide whether or not to do it.

Interviewer: Of the underage people you see accused of crime; you said it is more often for drugs or theft. Is there a typical background of these troubled kids, or is it just anyone?

Stuart: It is just like the news nowadays. You see people from a low social economic status doing drugs. Also, you see people with huge amounts of money, stars with all their fame and everything else, doing drugs. Really, there is no rhyme or reason.
