24-year-old NYPD cop Kelly Hughes faces multiple charges stemming from an accident that occurred earlier this years. In April, when the accident occurred, Hughes was not on-duty. After the crash, she and the passenger in her car left the scene of the accident.
On Monday, Hughes, who tried to hide in a nearby house after the accident to avoid police, was charged with multiple charges.
On 4th of April, Hughes’s Nissan flipped after colliding with a parked 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV on Revere Ave. in Schuylerville. The crash happened at about 4:10 a.m.
Londonio’s car was damaged, but he is lucky that he was not in the car at the time of the accident.
“My car was banged up pretty good,” 64-year-old Michael Londonio, the Mitsubishi’s owner told the News.
In April, the News reported that Hughes and her female passenger attempted to hide in a stranger’s nearby house but were refused by the owner of the house.
Hughes was found by the investigators at her home in Edgewater Park about a mile away from the accident spot. Sources told the News that Hughes and her passenger were too much under the influence of alcohol to remember what happened. No one was injured in the collision.
In January 2010, Hughes joined the force and was assigned to the 52nd Precinct. After it was determined that she was driving under the influence of alcohol, she was suspended and agreed to enter rehab after the accident.
According to the officials, she was not charged immediately after the accident with any criminal wrongdoing, but after the investigation of the incident, she was arrested on Monday morning. She was summoned later on charges of DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and criminal mischief. Officials said that she was released without bail and on 29th of July; she is scheduled to appear in court again.
